The other twenty one percent were owned by small rental truck companies such as Rollins Truck Leasing Corp and Penske Truck Leasing, along with other even smaller truck rental companies.

In nineteen ninety nine, U-Haul International had about one hundred and ninety thousand rental trucks on the road and over fifteen thousand dealerships. Ryder TRS owned a fleet of about thirty four thousand truck and about thirty six dealer locations. Important trends that were affecting rental truck companies were all the new stricter environmental regulations, tax laws and the efforts of the larger corporations to keep trucking assets off the books. This indicated that there was a very strong future in the rental truck companies and the leasing of trucks. Among the newer regulations that were affecting the rental truck companies was the federal laws that started regulating that all rental trucks, over ten thousand pounds, must undergo and pass a very extensive safety inspection every twelve months.

Then the Environmental Protection Agency came in and started putting regulations on the rental truck companies, regarding the underground storage tanks and of course the Clean Air Act was there as well. All of the trucks that rental truck companies had to pass their emission standards. By the turn of the twenty first century most large rental truck companies were online. Where one could find the rates, size of the trucks, and reserve their rental truck. One can still call the rental truck companies and do it that way or just go in and order what you will need.

Some of the big names in rental truck companies are of course, U-Haul, Penske, Budget, and Hertz, yes they have rental trucks. All of the rental truck companies offer different size boxes for sale, box cutters, tape, rope; padding quilts and dollies. Depending on the size of the truck rented, some will even come with electric lifts.

Always be sure with any of the rental truck companies, to do research and find out the best prices, if you can drop off the truck in another city, sizes of the truck you might need. Some will go online to find all this out and then reserve the truck there. Some like to still work with real people and go into the rental truck company’s stores.
